Tips For The Perfect Southwest Mason Jar Salad
Layer order matters. The dressing always goes in the bottom of the jar and the lettuce always goes on top. This keeps the lettuce from getting soggy until you are ready to eat. When you flip or shake the jar the dressing coats everything evenly for the perfect bite every time.
Wide mouth jars are a must. A standard mouth mason jar makes layering and eating much more difficult. Wide mouth pint jars give you the room you need to layer generously and eat comfortably. They are easy to find at most grocery and home stores and are completely worth it for this recipe.
Meal prep like a pro. This salad is absolutely made for meal prepping. Make four or five jars at once on Sunday and you have gorgeous, fresh, ready-to-go lunches all week long. The layers stay fresh and crisp in the refrigerator for up to four days as long as the dressing stays at the bottom.
Customize it to your taste. This recipe is a wonderful base that loves additions. Try adding diced avocado, shredded rotisserie chicken, crumbled queso fresco, crushed tortilla chips for crunch, or a squeeze of fresh lime juice. Every addition makes it even better and more filling.
Serve it on a plate for a restaurant feel. To really wow your guests or yourself, place a plate over the top of the jar and flip it upside down so the salsa pools over the top of the layered salad. It looks absolutely gorgeous and gives you a beautiful presentation that looks like it came from a restaurant. ๐ฝ๐
